That the most innovative thinking happens alone and not in teams?” Susan Cain, best-selling author of Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking.

We often associate great leadership and confidence with extroverted qualities: assertiveness, dominance and vocal. Author Susan Cain tells us that this is a serious waste of talent and energy. When addressing issues such as confidence and leadership, we are often told to “fake it until we make it.” Be bold and speak up because if we don’t, it’s possible that our leadership capabilities will be questioned. What’s more, organizations are embracing open-concept office spaces and increasingly collaborative atmospheres. While these features have proven to promote innovation and teamwork, they are further embracing the extrovert’s ideal work scenario. How can we ensure our workspaces and management styles are inclusive for both the introvert and extrovert? How can we maximize our career potential, regardless of which category we fall under?

At this event, Kristen Rasmussen, VP Human Resources, TELUS, will outline the differences in how introverts and extroverts work, including ways organizations can be structured so that the best ideas lead—no matter how they are conveyed. In addition, she’ll share suggestions on how to facilitate meetings and motivate teamwork so that introverts are able to showcase their expertise and leadership skills.
