The Film:
“The Sound of Mumbai” follows a group of slum children in Mumbai, India, who are were given a chance to experience a different world as they performed “The Sound of Music” with a classical orchestra, fostering hopes that it could change their lives forever. Under the direction of Johannes Steinwender, an Austrian music professor who travelled to Mumbai to conduct the performance, the children learn and create a choral performance of “The Sound of Music”. The results underscore the magic and transformative power of music.
“Music is a more potent instrument than any other for education, because rhythm and harmony find their way into the inward places of the soul.”
