Event Information
An eating disorder is an extremely secretive disease, and is stereotypically unheard of in the male population. However, males are increasingly feeling the pressure to attain the ‘perfect’ body. We want to shed some light on this issue, and raise much needed funds in our second annual fundraiser, ‘Men have Eating Disorders Too.’
This year’s Keynote Speaker is Aidan Scott, SpeakBox President. He will be taking us through his inspiring recovery journey of being a male with an eating disorder, living in Chilliwack. World-renowned eating disorder specialist Dr. Laird Birmingham will also be at the event with his team to answer any questions people have about eating disorders and his new private clinic.
Along with a focus on eating disorder recovery, there will be an entertainment portion of the event. Attendees will be serenaded by husband and wife duo, Winsome Kind and will then rock out with the band, One More Girl. The audience will also see an active display of the latest Inner Fire Clothing Line “Empowered” while being treated to a performance by professional dance troop Lux. Dance Company.
The evening doesn’t stop there, we also have a silent auction table complete with signed Canucks paraphernalia, Family Day Passes for the new Sea to Sky Gondola, Coffee gift baskets, a Jason Matlo dress, locally made Spirits, craft brewery gift cards, and much more!
Currently in British Columbia there are few options for those struggling with an eating disorder, regardless of the severity of their health. Approximately170,000 Canadian men will suffer from an eating disorder in their lifetime, yet many of the needed treatment are not publicly funded.
Project True is a not for profit organization that is dedicated to assisting people in their recovery by working with a team of health care professionals. Come out and show your support, on Thursday September 25, 2014, at Heritage Hall on Main Street in Vancouver.
Bid of some cool local items, watch some amazing local talent, all while sipping on a cocktail, or beer if you prefer! Help us create change within our community, and give hope and much needed support to those suffering from an eating disorder.
