Enter to WIN tickets to Leadership Lessons from Influential Women in Business

Over a year ago I returned back from maternity leave after having my daughter. I have to admit, when I started back to work I felt incredibly disconnected from business life, anxious about how I was going to “balance” being a working Mum and still find quality time for my little one AND overwhelmed at the thought of keeping my career on an upwards trajectory.

About three months after I had returned, I stumbled upon an advertisement for the event “Leadership Lessons from Influential Women in Business” in an issue of Business in Vancouver. I registered for the event and I would describe it as my “turning point” at that time in my career. The amount of incredible and inspirational women I met at this seminar was staggering. We had collaborative discussions about so many different issues women face – both personally and professionally. I met a large amount of women I now look up to for mentorship and advice, including women like Cynthia Roney, Michelle Pockey and Judy Brooks.

I would HIGHLY encourage every women in Vancouver to attend this event. It is sure to sell out based on the success and buzz of the 2010 event. To find out more about this year's event – check out the full Nov 23, 2011 agenda here. The focus for this year is “Leadership – understanding the opportunity and the challenge”. They have a STELLAR list of panelists including Cybele Negris, Elise Rees and Evaleen Jaager Roy.

We are really thrilled to be partnering with the Professional Women's Network and Business in Vancouver to give away these two tickets. If you haven't checked out PWN Canada, you should! They put on fantastic events in Vancouver are are living their mission of  assisting business women to:

I would love to attend this event, especially as a young, fresh face in the business world. Although always considering myself to be a leader amongst my past peers, co workers and friends, I have much to learn from the many women in business today. Through their leadership and influential career paths, I hope to take home some key leadership skills, geared specifically towards women.

Stop apologizing when it’s not my fault and only apologize when it is truly warranted.

The best leadership lesson I have learned is to keep my mouth shut and let my team come up with their own solutions and strategies. It is very difficult not to give answers.

Best leadership lesson I have learned: Allow your team to make mistakes as the learning opportunity derived from it far outweighs the mistake itself.

I am a young woman working hard to gain economic independence and secure for herself a vital role in this world in order to give back. I want to be an example for other women and potentially for my own daughter one day. I want to attend this event to create meaningful connections and relationships with other strong women, to learn from them and to grow as an individual.
