Organizers of TEDxSFU 2012 are happy to confirm this year’s conference, taking place on Saturday, September 22nd, 2012. In true SFU spirit, the conference will be held at Simon Fraser University’s Goldcorp Centre for the Arts. With support from our sponsor, Vancity, this year’s conference will be sure to spark conversation and catalyze ideas in the community.
This year’s theme focuses on Going Against the Grain, and we are inviting speakers from diverse fields including arts, technology, science, politics and entertainment to tell us their stories of standing up and standing out.
Last year’s conference themed Community Engagement was well-attended, bringing together SFU students, alumni, and citizens from the wider community. 15 remarkable speakers – including John Furlong, CEO of the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Winter Olympic & Paralympic Winter Games; Ryan Holmes, Founder of Hootsuite and Ta’kaiya Blainey of Sliammon First Nations – gathered to tell us their stories. The event garnered wide attention in social media and was part of vancouversun.com’s breaking news.
Speakers are currently being vetted and will be announced as soon as they are confirmed.
Like our speakers, attendees of the conference are carefully selected by an application process and will include students, alumni, staff and faculty from SFU, as well as artists, activists, business professionals and changemakers from the wider community.
