Carolyn De Voest, Feature Writer for NetworkinginVan.com and Principal with Better Your Best Coaching attended the Women of Influence Luncheon on Friday, April 20th featuring Annalisa King, CFO of Best Buy Canada. Women of Influence produces inspiring, progressive, and celebratory events across the country. Our programs serve to fill the gap for women looking for mentors, looking to connect with likeminded individuals on their path to success, or looking for unique corporate entertainment.
“Enjoy, Jump, and Love Thyself” were the reminders that Annalisa King, the CFO of Best Buy Canada, shared last Friday with the attendees of the Women of Influence lunch at the Sutton Place Hotel. Using a great sense of humor and a high level of authenticity Annalisa broke down her career into three chapters “Enjoy the Ride, Jump, and Love Thyself.”
Don’t stress too much about the future, take risks, and be kind to yourself, was how I interpreted each of her chapters. Managing your career or leading your team should be done from a place of optimism and positivity versus obsession and fear. Each chapter of her life had a great reminder for all the women in the room at all stages of a career.
While Annalisa shared a great many nuggets of wisdom, what really stuck with me the most was the idea that the most powerful networking can often be with the people that you least expect. She reminded me of the importance of maintaining relationships in a deep and meaningful way. “Every job I’ve ever gotten was through someone I knew.”
And finally, Annalisa shared with us how her career had come a full circle in that she remembered attending a “Women of Influence Lunch” in the early stages of her profession and was quite humbled to now be presenting one. What became apparent to me in hearing Annalisa speak was that when you surround yourself with great people as she made a point of in her career, have fun with what you do, practise self management, and work hard, you too may be the next Women of Influence speaker.
Overall this event did not disappoint: the venue, the speaker, the food and the others guests at my table made for a highly enjoyable, engaging and refreshing afternoon and one I would recommend other woman to attend.
